A man who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two children aged nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the next day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.

She stated the defendant continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that time," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.

She said the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
